Prevention

Discover a Higher Standard of Care

As hygienists, we often hear patients say they have “soft teeth” and expect to have cavities at their routine cleaning appointments. More likely than not, the issue is diet, education, and patient behavior.

Our mission is disease prevention. We identify risk factors and educate our patients about the causes of tooth decay and gum disease, and the preventive actions they can take.

There is a growing arsenal of prevention materials. As a patient, it is important to understand if the products your dental provider uses help prevent decay and disease.

I have learned that not all dental products are created equal and that these differences are a result of technological advances and the dental manufacturer’s prevention philosophy.

Sealant—Embrace™ WETBOND™ Pit & Fissure Sealant from Pulpdent is among the top sealants in the world today. Thanks to proprietary WETBOND™ technology, Embrace Sealant is the first sealant to bond with the moist tooth. This makes for anxiety-free placement in situations where placement can be challenging, such as with children.

“One of my responsibilities is to create an environment that is favorable for the natural healing process.”

Choosing products that align with the natural components of our enamel is essential in the prevention of tooth decay. Teeth are made of calcium and phosphate, and materials that incorporate these essential minerals help to replenish and protect tooth structure. The addition of fluoride makes teeth more acid-resistant. Pulpdent prevention products contain calcium, phosphate and fluoride and help promote long term oral health.

Varnish—Pulpdent overcame traditional varnish challenges with its CXP™ chemical technology in Embrace Varnish. Enamel-hardening fluoride, calcium, and phosphate are released only when the varnish is in contact with the tooth thanks to a xylitol “wrapping.” The result is outstanding ion release over more than 4 hours, ensuring benefits to teeth.

Merging Restorative and Preventive Dentistry—The ion-releasing restoratives in the ACTIVA line help defend against secondary caries. Calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions help modulate biofilm and promote nucleation sites for apatite formation, which stabilizes the hybrid layer. ACTIVA restorations actively benefit the health of the tooth and help prevent restorative failure.
